    What is the Johns Hopkins University Center for Social Organization of Schools?

    The Center for Social Organization of Schools is an academic department at Johns Hopkins.  It has a proud history that goes back to James Coleman and the team of researchers who produced the landmark Equality of Educational Opportunity report (1966).  The Center brings together cutting-edge research and development in education, with a focus on traditionally underserved students.  Current research projects address the high school dropout crisis, instructional strategies in Algebra 1 and adolescent literacy curricula, and high school organization.  The Center is also deeply involved in comprehensive school reform and continues to refine the curricula and technical assistance it offers through the Talent Development Middle Schools and Talent Development High Schools programs.

    Job Responsibilities

    The Research Assistant will work closely with Ph.D.-level research scientists on dynamic new initiatives to improve high school and college graduation rates for traditionally underserved youth.  Two major substantive areas of work will be:

    • Longitudinal studies at the district and state level that examine predictors of student success in high school and/or postsecondary education
    • Analyses of data from randomized control trials of college-preparatory coursework for underserved youth

    Specific responsibilities include: conducting literature searches; managing and manipulating large, complex data sets; analyzing quantitative data from surveys and administrative records; preparing reports and memos; creating graphs and tables; supervising work-study students as needed.

    Job Qualifications

    • At least a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, statistics, or education policy/leadership.  A master's degree or some graduate coursework preferred
    • Knowledge of statistical software and data base programs (SPSS/Stata/SAS and Excel)
    • Demonstrated ability to construct and manage large databases, clean and analyze data, and construct tables and figures
    • Strong writing skills
    • Excellent work attitude and work habits including reliability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to think and work independently.

    Responsibilities:
    The Center on Sentencing and Corrections seeks a research associate who
    will work with the center.s senior research associate on a New York State Division of
    Parole research project. This work includes quantitative analysis of administrative
    parole data as well as qualitative interviews with parolees and parole officers. More
    generally, the responsibilities of the research associate will include work in all
    research planning and implementation; managing and analyzing computerized databases using
    SPSS; constructing and preparing data collection instruments, interview materials, and
    code books; recruiting and interviewing study subjects; conducting rigorous statistical

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    The Regional Program Manager must possess a well-developed political
    acumen.  The RPM should also have the ability to mentor and build the
    capacity of local staff. Since work may require continued changes in program
    direction and implementation, including frequent coordination, the
    individual will be someone who is highly flexible and willing to work under
    conditions of ongoing change.  The individual should also possess the
    flexibility and willingness to work in locations with basic work and living
    arrangements.

    In addition, candidates should meet the following minimum qualifications:
    •2 – 3  years or more of work experience in international development;
    •Experience working in conflict zones; experience in Sudan or the region
    desired;
    •Previous experience managing USAID subgrant programs and familiarity of

    Description:
    This position is under the supervision of the Director of the Child and Adolescent Health
    Measurement Initiative (CAHMI) and on a project-basis, under supervision of senior-level CAHMI staff.     The position will focus on:

    1) design and implementation of consumer-centered quality measures

    3) strategic dissemination of the findings from these activities to inform policies at the national, state, plan, and provider-level. This position will work with various stakeholders, including consumers, health care providers, health plans, State Medicaid agencies and national organizations focused on child healthcare quality. FTE is flexible, between .8 and 1.0

    Required Qualifications:

    Research Associate:

    Masters Degree in public health, health services management, health care policy analysis or related field. Education must have included a course on quality measurement and improvement methods or equivalent.

     

    Sr. Research Associate:

    Doctorate degree in relevant field. Further Requirements: Experience and knowledge about quality measurement processes. Includes design, methods for implementation and reporting of the findings. Includes experience designing and/or evaluating the validity, feasibility, reliability and communication of standardized quality measures useful for monitoring and improving health care quality.     Founded in 1923, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to bringing necessary knowledge to practical action on key social issues. It does this through a wide variety of partnerships and research programs,
    workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly xchanges and publications.

    In seeking to advance the quality, value, and effectiveness of social science research,
    the SSRC encourages scholars in separate disciplines - anthropologists, economists,
    historians, political scientists, psychologists, sociologists, statisticians, and others
    - to work together on important topical, conceptual, and methodological issues that can
    benefit from interdisciplinary collaboration. Natural scientists, geographers, linguists,
    and scholars in the humanities also participate in many of the Council's activities.

    The SSRC seeks a Program Coordinator to work in the President.s office, on the
    development of new projects. This position will report directly to the President and will
    have the opportunity to work closely with other senior members of the Administrative
    staff.

    GENERAL DUTIES
    . Administer projects run directly from the President.s Office including conceptualizing
    and coordinating meetings.
    . Work with Communications to maintain and develop the profile of the Office of the
    President, including coordination of pod casts and other web media forms.
    . Partner across program areas as directed by the Office of the President to engage in
    collaborative special initiatives.
    . Operational management, including in support of teams of outside researchers.
    . Aid in the preparation of new proposals and the identifying of opportunities with
    funders.
    . Liaison with funders and various research and academic institutions
    . Central responsibility for effective organization (including logistics, communication,
    and reporting) of some existing projects especially in the public sphere area.
    . Research, writing and editing as needed.
    . Other duties as directed by the President

    The International Development Program (IDP) of the American Institutes for Research (AIR), a not-for-profit research organization that provides applied social and behavior research and technical assistance to clients in developing countries, is seeking an Educational Assessment Specialist, either at the mid- or senior-level, with expertise in the development and implementation of large-scale assessment and evaluation programs.
    This individual will work within IDP in two main areas: 1) assisting ministries of education and examinations boards in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East to
    develop new student assessment programs and improve on existing systems; and 2) leading
    and/or participating in program evaluations, which may include student learning outcomes.
    The candidate will need strong training skills to develop materials, conduct workshops,
    and build local capacity in standards, assessment, and evaluation.

    This position will be based in the AIR Washington, D.C. (Georgetown) office and will
    require travel to project sites. Current IDP projects involving standards, assessment,

    setting, data analysis and/or reporting. In addition, a strong background in educational
    research and evaluating interventions is desired. In addition to the above, some
